Current affairs

This is the personal blog of Helle Sjøvaag – or, it’s more like a CV. I am 43 years old and live and work in Stavanger, Norway as a Professor of journalism at the University of Stavanger. My main areas of interest are news and journalism, media economy and regulation, online journalism and technology. I tend to approach my subjects from a general media-sociological viewpoint, often using hybrid methodologies in the intersection between media studies and information science, especially for studying large amounts of digital data.

I’m currently running the project Digital News Agendas in Scandinavia.  This project is funded by the Ander Foundation – Anne-Marie och Gustav Anders stiftelse för mediaforskning.

In the fall I am launching a new project funded by the Research Council of Norway – The datafication of communicative power: Towards an independent media policy for Norway’s digital infrastructures.
